Usually, braces are used to correct the bite, especially in adult patients. And even 20 years ago, braces were the only effective solution for teeth alignment.

But thanks to modern technology, a new method of bite correction – eliners – has become possible. Technically, eliners are removable transparent polycarbonate mouth guards.

How is the technique technologically advanced and innovative? Eliners are designed individually for each patient based on the results of 3D scanning and computer modeling. With the help of special software, the necessary tooth movement is precisely calculated and a set of mouthguards is made to obtain the desired result.

How it works

• At the first stage, a 3D scan of the mouth is performed and special software is used to model the mouth guard and its effect on the teeth. Even before treatment begins, you can see the result – the monitor screen will show you step-by-step all the changes from the initial to the final position of the teeth.
• Based on diagnosis and modeling, an individualized treatment plan is created
• This is followed by the fabrication of the mouthguard at Align Technology from the 3D models generated
• While you are waiting to receive your first set of mouth guards, which is designed to last 2-3 months of treatment, you should address other “dental” problems – treat cavities, perform hygienic cleanings.
• After receiving the mouth guard, you will proceed directly to treatment – you must wear the mouth guard for at least 20 hours a day. Every two to three weeks, as your teeth move, you will replace the current mouth guard with the next one. You will receive comprehensive information from your orthodontist on how to properly wear the mouth guard, maintain hygiene, and when to replace it. You should visit your orthodontist at least every month and a half to monitor your treatment

The length of time to correct the bite with eliners is individualized for each patient, usually the length of treatment ranges from up to 6 months to 2 years

The only significant disadvantage of Invisalign eliners is the price. This treatment is significantly more expensive than classic treatment with bracket systems.

Also in some complex cases with significant deformations of tooth growth or jaw positioning, treatment with eliners may not be effective enough, but such factors are determined at the stage of preliminary diagnostics and in such a situation the doctor will recommend you other methods of bite treatment.
